of the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance

WHAT IS WOCC?

The Women of Color Caucus (WOCC) is a group of individuals who identify with each other because of similar cultural or ethnic characteristics, economics or life circumstances, who share an experience.

WHO ARE WOMEN OF COLOR?

Women of color include, but are not limited to African Americans, Asians, Latinos, Middle Easterners, Native Americans and more. Women of color reflect a diverse group of women.

WHY HAVE A WOMEN OF COLOR CAUCUS?

The WOCC was formed as a response to populations who are traditionally underrepresented due to the unique cultural impact on the sexual and domestic violence experiences.

Women of color are inflicted with difficult social issues. They face myths, negative stereotypes and the realities of sexism and racism within the criminal justice system and more that leave women of color with few options.
